TOWARDS RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION :
A CROSS-SECTION OF EXPERTS FROM THE GARDENING MARKET

THE OPENING CONFERENCE SET THE CONTEXT FOR THIS 20TH EDITION.
Manuel Rucar of the trend consultancy Chlorosphère - At the moment, we can see that it's the extremes of the market that are doing best, namely the entry-level and the top-of-the-range. We're seeing a loss of consumer confidence. The figures show that they have the impression that brands are not sufficiently involved in sustainable development. The mean-it, the commitments of a brand are scrutinised by customers. But individuals, especially Millennials, have become more aware of environmental issues.

Sébastien Attina CEO Truffaut - The season is shaping up nicely, as is the return of the sun. We're feeling a lot of impatience. We all want to buy responsible, local products, and this is reflected in consumer trends. There's still the problem of price. There's a dichotomy between what I want and what I can afford. So we need to make the best more affordable. That's the core of our expertise. But it's up to the consumer to make the choice. We, the industry as a whole, need to speak with one voice. For example, we need to emphasise the low-carbon impact of the plants we sell, when people are talking to us about the carbon cost of our market. Localism is a key issue for our teams. For example, our plants are produced less than 200 km from each shop. This is not only a benefit in terms of quality, but also a source of pride for our employees. Not to mention the jobs!

Vincent Avignon Teract - This race to adapt to new ecological requirements is a long one. We started by measuring the carbon footprint of our products. This enables us to identify sources of progress. There is still work to be done. Nevertheless, ecodesign research is progressing and we have already achieved a great deal. Sustainable development? We can't escape it! The urgency is already there. Companies will not escape it.
